RAFIKI is a Kenyan drama directed by Wanuri Kahiu, telling the story of Kena and Ziki, two young women in Nairobi who fall in love in a society where homosexuality is both illegal and heavily stigmatized. As they face pressure from their families and the wider community, they struggle to live their love openly. With vibrant visuals and a heartfelt narrative, the film explores themes of love, identity, and defying social norms. RAFIKI made history as the first Kenyan film to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, although it was censored in Kenya due to its LGBTQIA+ themes.
